How long should it take a film to stream
Hi,
I am using a Sony BDP-S550 and a mythbuntu 9.10 (karmic) server and can access all my music (FLAC files) and video (VOB's, a few mpg and a few iso's)in the file manager. I can play my music files perfectly but when I try to play a video file, it starts to transcode buffer but nothing ever shows up on the screen. How long should I expect to wait and am I using the wrong file types? What video file type will give the quickest streaming (I will happily transcode a couple of movies to trial).
Thanks,
Ian

Rhinoian,
We will have to look at the specific files. Are they available from a public URL?
I have just been having another play. I have played .flac music files just fine streaming from an ubuntu server over a 100Mbit ethernet. I have managed to get some mpg files recorded from mythtv to play sporadically but the sound seems to be playing faster than the pictures. these are all SD files, PAL. The rip. The video plays smootly but the timing is out. I can stream over wifi from the server to my Windows 7 box and vlc.
We haven't yet tested functionality with DVD VOBs. It is will be taken up within the next few weeks. See http://www.rayinblu.com/forum/thread/desired-feature-list .
I have just managed to get mpg files to stream. these were recordings made from MythTV. Still working on a dvd iso or a vob. Maybe I should transcode them to something else? rather than doing it on the fly?
