Panasonic BD-60
I can't even get to first base......Plugged in several USB devices and all recognised by player. Play the rendr disc and continues to come up no memory so I can't even see if my networking is correct yet. Looks like I'll have to purchase a SD card and try that although one of the help pages (how to one???) showed either SD or USB for this player?
Also am I able to just connect the ethernet cable (not using wireless) direct to the one PC without the Internet and my other PC's which use internet via Netgear wired router? Reason being is I want this PC to be just a media centre and don't want it anywhere near the internet or is that impossible with Rendr?
Cheers

Some updates are downloaded automatically but not all. In any case, we will send production version discs to all beta testers.
no worries...........when you make updates to the Rendr software do they auto download and save on SD card or do I have to download them myself manually somehow?
Please keep me informed of changes so that I know when I should re-test stuff I have tried so far again.
TvTed2,
Thanks for the feedback. The initial response time is caused by the server having to transcode the video into Rendr playable format. We believe the response time is the number 1 issue and are working on improving it. Once we are satisfied with the response time, we will address other issues like some videos not showing up. Once again, thanks for taking time to test and to provide feedback.
sorry for the delay but been busy with work. Anyhow I just spent hours and hours playing around and could only get one video file to work but it took 6 plus minutes to start. All other files / folders I tried which includes m2ts, vob, video_ts, avi. mp4. mp3, bmp, jpg etc etc gave varying results with only one wmv actually working with full pic and sound and it was 4gig in size. Took a while to start, more than 1 or 2 minutes. 2 wmv files approx 900 gig each (HD, 3D stuff) did not even show up in directory on screen via rendr?
The bunny one, though way to slow for anyone to wait (it's only a 9 minute clip and took half that time to even start but it was perfect although a bit of sound glitch the first time I streamed it). One other video file (it was a VOB, one of those dolby digital samplers you find on many DVD's before the movie starts) played 5.1 surround perfectly but no pic. (It took to long to start up considering it's smallish size). Another I tried the other day had pic no sound.
I think it is just the time it takes to stream stuff is the problem. I mean you can only wait so long when testing something for a result before coming to the conclusion its not going to work? Perhaps if I waited longer?
By the way the response time of the panasonic players is not that quick either but I don't think that is the problem as Rendr says it is streaming, then up comes the Rendr screen saver, then a blank screen for ages until you eventually give up. I mean I wait up to 5 or 6 minutes or so but frankly 1 or 2 is not that good if you have a group of people over to watch a movie. (which I had no succes with blu-ray or dvd files no matter if ISO or just file copied to PC as per original files).
Anyhow I hope all this feedback helps as I know it's taken most of my Saturday up. LOL. I hope you are taking this as constructive feedback and not just negative stuff? Cheers TvTed2
TvTed2 - are you saying that "bunny" clips work fine on PC but not on Rendr?
It worked fine on both my newer PC's, the two I have been trying to get Rendr to work with!? What next.....
TvTed2,
Could you please this clip http://mirror.bigbuckbunny.de/peach/bigbuckbunny_movies/big_buck_bunny_7... to see if this works on your setup?
Hi,
Yes I can let you know my ISP address however my ISP is not static ie it is different everytime I connect to the Net so will the current one help?
cheers.
TvTed2 - could you let us know your IP address (you can send it through contact form) so that we can analyze your logs?
BD live has been turned on since had player, just double checked and it is fully on.
Ok after much heartache I finally got Rendr to actually auto configure the networking setup and it now sees my PC. I had to change network cables a few times despite all being cat5 I could only get one to work (properly that is) between blu-ray player and the router. All cables worked fine between PC's and router?? (with one exception where it kept losing signal because the connectors were not staying in far enough due to poor construction). Used various lengths up to 30 metres.
The only thing now is I have only been able to get a couple of pics to display on plasma screen. One video file finally started up with audio only, no pic (as previously mentioned as being a fault). Everything else nothing! Tried bmp, avi, mkv, vob, m2ts, Video_TS folders, Blu-ray folders, wmv, ISO's etc etc. On ones it has a go at playing it commences loading, says may take 1 - 2 minutes, screen goes black and I have sat and waited 5mins plus and nothing. In fact I have to eject the disc and start over in most cases as it freezes up.
It said file not recognised for DVD and Blu-Ray ISO's, many avi's and other video files too. I thought it could do these things? If it attempted a load of Video_Ts file for a DVD I expected to see a full DVD menu like normal but I couldn't get it to go that far, just the blank screen for ages? Even just to display a small jpg it does same, wait, wait and nothing. A couple of pics seemed to display okay when you go into the "web" folder. I downloaded one to see if worked but can't find where it stored it. Not on PC or SD Card though said it was downloading? I even tried a different PC. The server has the big tick on it.
Do I have to do anything with the server or is it just left alone running and allows me to explore PC on TV screen or am I doing something wrong? It has to be me surely???? Size of network cable shouldn't matter as it certaily doesn't for my daughters PC some 30 metres of cable ran from router to it and her Internet may lag a little but not really noticeable with ADSL2+???
Oh by the way the ethernet cable that worked has usual cat5E on it plus the words "patch"??? Don't know if thats significant.
Anyhow any help always appreciated and when I have a few spare hours I'll have another crack at it, cheers for now.
Make sure under Setup -> Disc -> BD Live Internet Connection is set to "Allow All."
Ok...thanks. I actually ended up buying an 8gb micro SD with adapter card today, just got back with it and when have time in next day or so will test and report back. (I went micro and adapter as my daughter's phone uses the micro SD so if it's a no go she scores I guess!!). The manual specifically says this micro SD is fine so long as over 4Gb....well lets see.....
As far as testing on my other BD60 down theatre room it was a no go on the USB either (which you obviously now have worked out too).
When you say video problems on SD I am assuming you have transferred a file to the card and it only has sound? Or are you meaning that networked video files (all of them) have this problem? I haven't got that far as yet. Would be a bummer if the latter and could't be fixed.
Just for the record so on same page the version of Rendr I have is 0.10 (Beta)........probably the only one but thought would mention it in case?
Cheers,
TvTed2
Edit - Tell me how to test PAL video or how to tell if it is in PAL format so when I get round to it I can test that from here too.
Edit 2 5/1/10 2am - OK memory problem gone now have SD card....then got to spot where can't connect to network....spent hours on settings in blu-ray player and finally got PASS when tested ethernet connection. I eagerly put the Rendr disc back in but up came Can't Connect to Network (or similar). Have not formatted the card in a PC as error text suggests but will work on it more if have time tomorrow....I mean today....time for some shut eye, cheers.
TvTed2,
We acquired a BD60 and
1. It does require SD card although the manual led us to believe that USB would work for BD memory.
2. It has problem playing SD video (NTSC mode, no video shows up, audio OK) - we don't yet know if the PAL mode of SD video has problem as well
We are working on fixing the video problem.
Thanks for prompt reply!
Perhaps my player has a fault with USB however it recognises every one I have put into it so far. The one I wanted to use is few years old 1GB Kingston Traveller and when you change the player over to view what is on it it accesses it fine (it's blank but you can see that on screen). I can remember using it ages ago to show some pics and it worked. USB lights up on front display of player.
Another is brand new and it's 8GB (my lovely daughter brought it for me for Christmas!). It's a Lexar and when plug it into player USB also lights up on front display.
Another is Amicroe brand 4GB and about 3 or 4 months old? Player accessed it fine when looking for pics on it?
I just tried another 4GB one, had it a year or more. Transcend brand and no dice as far as working with Rendr either..............help??????
Oh I checked player and as far as I can see BD Live is on / activated on player too.
I do have another BD-60 player but it is down the backyard in my theatre room and a major hassle tp either try it down there or even to unwire it and bring it inside. Down there I have to turn the projector on so would have to wait several days or more until my next movie session. (Bad for lamp if turn it on and off within an hour os so....although many people do but I'll bet my lamp longevity is much better by sticking to this!?). When I try it I'll report back. The only problem if it does work I'll bet I won't be able to get the other one fixed under warranty (or paid for) as Panasonic will say there is nothing wrong with USB as it displays pics etc as it is supposed to????
Maybe if anyone else that has this player can comment, especially if from down under (Aussie), in case something in the electronics is different to players sold here....grasping at straws but have seen this sort of thing before?
I am reluctant to buy a SD card if USB has not been an issue with this player at your end as I might be throwing $ away for nothing???? Only because I don't have another use for it, not so much the $.
Regarding the rest of your reply, thanks as that will save me time wondering why the next step wasn't working LOL (assuming i can get to that stage) however my router has 4 ports and I am already unplugging one for use on a 5th PC.......that's what happens when you have a family and everyone has to have their own PC (that's why I have the router!! LOL) Cheers.....look forward to any more comments / help.
Edit - Nearly forgot...Have a Happy New Year all!!!! (Gee some of those CAPTCHA maths questions you have to answer are getting a bit harder LOL LOL)
TvTed2,
USB should work on BD-60.
1. Are the memory devices you have tried 1GB or larger? BD Live requires 1GB memory.
2. Is the player seeing the memory correctly?
3. Is the memory too fast or too advanced or too new for the player (we have never seen this problem)?
Rendr asks the player how much memory it has and throws "no memory" error if the memory is non-existent or very small.
Regarding the network connections,
1. Rendr needs to work with a router
2. Rendr uses Internet to test for network connectivity (seems to be the most reliable way to test for connectivity)
Keep us updated.
