So who has tried it and what is it like????????
I am in Australia and my disc hasn't arrived yet, but surely someone in the US has already got there disk and has tried Rendr.
What's the verdict?
What have you been streaming and any compatibility problems?
Should put up a sticky with computer setups and bd players being used with rendr.
Someone has got to have some feedback already.
Rick

Received the updated Rendr disc today. A vast improvement on playability of movie files. Lot less stoppages within movies, the ff controls worked a lot better.
Continuing issues with avi files crashing to a black screen. Files work flawlessly on my HTPC (vista OS) so no errors within the avi files. Problems with fast forward in that very slow and constant stopping at certain intervals. Happy to report that MKV files have played so far without a problem. Does rayinblu suggest any tweaking of the PS3server configuration or leave it at default?

Rick,
We are looking into these issues (albeit slow due to Thanksgiving in the US). We plan to have the optimal settings of PS3MS-Rendr out of the box although we are not there yet.
My player is a Sony BDP-S550. Rayinblu are sending me another disc with the latest updates as I my player is having difficulty downloading the updates due the length and amount of updates needed to get it to the next version of rendr. I am using PAL. Hopefully the updated disc will solve some issues. When I receive the disc, as usual I will post any issues.
Well after many attempts (all failing) I've finally had some success.
I tested an HD file that RayInBlu recommended and it worked! Played flawlessly with a full-screen image and full 5.1 sound through my amp.
Just waiting to test some SD files. I'll keep you posted on how I get on.

- may I ask what make/model Blu-Ray player you are using - also is it PAL (720x576) or NTSC (720x480)?
Anyone?
First Impressions.
My system: Vista quad core running the PS3 server. My blu-ray Sony BDP-S550.
I run the PS3 server, finds my blu-ray with the rendr disc. It is attached to my Sony Bravia LCD tv. I have the green tick on the PS3 server. So far so good.
I can access my files on my server. The GUI is a liitle bit slow when accessing the folders. It runs music files well and very easily. Only a very slight lag of about 5 seconds.
When accessing folders containing movie files in avi or mkv etc formats it is a lot slower. At least 15 to 20 seconds. The movies do run for a short time of about 5 minutes before the screen blacks out. Wait about 30 seconds to a minute before the movie continues to play. There is intermittent stuttering throughout the movies. The movies are in xvid and divx format. I have also tried mkv formatted movies with similar results.
Anyway the beta works up to a point but as for watching streaming movies its not yet in a position to do that without those interruptions I mentioned.
I left the PS3 at default settings.
I also have my HTPC ( vista) connected to my Sony Bravia and use windows media centre to play my streaming music and movies and it works very well. I was hoping to remove the HTPC, to un-clutter TV room the but at this stage it will need to stay as the beta version of rendr is not quite there yet.
Anybody else got any results or tweaking that they may have done to the PS3 server that helps it run through the blu-ray, please publish them.
Thanks
Rick
Not much luck sofar, tried a MKV file, all on default setting, no sound and running too slow.
Tried a .avi , screen stays black but sound plays.
On the PS3 media server I cannot tell if it is transcoding the file, the progression bar does not move etc.
Interface seems very slow, takes ages before a movie finally starts to play.
Will have a bit more time this coming weekend to explore things a bit more in depth/
Zarthaz - Thanks for your feedback. The transcode progress bar is NOT used in Rendr Edition of PS3MS because it slows downloading. Looking at your error logs, we can tell that the download speed is sufficient and movies should have started playing in about 30 seconds. Both videos seem to have started playing but we can't tell that they didn't play properly. We will test with specific videos you were playing. Thanks for your patience.
Rick and Zarthaz - Both your players are reporting the default SD video format to be 720x480 (NTSC) but from your countries we can tell that they should be 720x576. The videos are being encoded to this "default video format" which does not seem to be correct. We will add a manual selection for the default video format to fix this problem and release update ASAP. Your disc will use this update automatically when it runs after the release.
Well my disc arrived today.
I was looking forward to testing it out, but unfortunately I don't seem to have had much luck.
I can connect ok but can't seem to get any video to display from my files. I just get a blank screen (the sound comes through though). I'm using a Panasonic BD35 (UK latest firmware), I chose 720x576 in the setup and I've only tried from my laptop running Vista (wireless to router - not good I know). My player is connected to the router via homeplugs (networking over home electrics) so that isn't ideal either admittedly.
However I can display .jpg files ok - but my .cr2(raw) files don't show up.
I've tried rebooting my laptop and my player various times.
I'm also running my HDMI cable through my surround amp, but even with a direct connection I only get a blank screen with sound.
I've tried divx, dvd rips and DVB-T recordings (converted to dvd standard .mpg files) all with no luck. Also I can't get dvd .iso or video_ts to even try to play - I just get a message that says: Playlist has nothing to play.
I've e-mailed you my log as well.
My rendr has been updated this morning. I have noticed the PS3 now shows rendr at 576 which is the correct resolution. Again there is problems with avi files etc.... After this update the files play for about 3 minutes then lock up. I tried a few avi files etc and the same problem. Only a few minutes of play then a lock up. What I mean by lock up is the the file stops playing. I am still able to go back to the folder directory and choose other files. Anyway will keep trying. I will forward the log file.

PS3 media server has been updated this date 4/11/2009 to version 1.20.06.
Well, after trying with the updates & a direct network connection (through my router) from my laptop to BD-35 I'm still stuck with a black screen (with audio).
Is anyone else having issues with a UK BD-35 & Win Vista? I may try my XP & Win 7 PC's - although they are not very high-spec, so I don't know how well they'd cope with transcoding?
After all the updates so far the movie files still crash after a few minutes, black screen then crash back to the folder directory. I even installed PS3 on my windows 7 machine and i did get a longer play time but the end result was a crash back to the file directory. Only thing to do is keep tryingand submitting logs. They may help. A side issue is that if I fast forward through a movie file and want to play it at that new spot it also crashes back to the file directory. I wasnt too concerned about this problem as I would like to really see the movie files play from start to finish with any hiccups.

Rick - Thanks for feedback. We will retest (and further optimize) movie operation.
I received this email, but the link doesn't work. My stored configuration is correct.
"Dear Beta Tester,
Please provide your system and player information at http://www.rayinblu.com/user/me/edit/Configuration so that we can provide you with beta discs. Please note that the beta discs are shipped after we have tested your system and player configuration.
